Philip Brainard’s interest in art began at an early age. Born and raised near the Westmoreland Milk Glass factory, that was owned by his family in Pittsburgh, PA, he went on to pursue formal artistic training at Brooks Art Institute in Santa Barbara, CA in the early 1970's. Soon after graduating, Philip followed in his family’s interest in glass and aesthetics by becoming one of the founders in Phoenix Art Glass & Bronze Studios.  It was there that he began to employ the use of metals and the art of lost wax and sand casting.
