Don grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and played 3&2 League baseball from the Midget B Division in 1949 to the Senior Division in 1960. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City where he also played baseball. He is a retired accountant who spent several years in Italy working as a plant controller for an American owned international company. He has five children and 9 grandchildren and currently lives in Manhattan, Kansas with his wife, Carol.
