Anthony Mata was born and raised in San Francisco and Vallejo, California. He attended the Academy of Art University and majored in Illustration and studied at City College of San Francisco under the journalism department.

His illustrations have appeared in The Guardsman, El Tecolote, and SF Bay Guardian newspapers, BelleSf, and Etc. magazine.
