À propos du livre
Volume 2 of Steel Passageways 'Up the Valley', presents a pictorial account of train operations over CN's transcontinental main line between Ottawa and North Bay during the final years leading up to the Beachburg Subdivision's removal from service west of Pembroke, Ontario, in late 1995. The book also provides an insightful look at the shortline decade between 1998 and 2008 when the truncated transcon was owned and operated by Quebec Railway Corporation's Ottawa Central Railway. The book's images chronicle activity on the Beachburg Subdivision after the CNR re-acquires the line in 2008, and follows through with the line's 2013-2014 dismantlement from Pembroke to Nepean after a decision is made by the company to permanently terminate service - 'Up the Valley'. The book's final chapter takes a nostalgic look back at main-line steam's 'last stand' in the Upper Ottawa Valley between 1987 and 1990 when the Bytown Railway Society sponsored an annual passenger train excursion between Ottawa and Pembroke on CN's 'Valley Line', featuring National Museum of Science and Technology-owned locomotive No. 1201.
