À propos du livre
The region of Emilia-Romagna is the heartland of northern Italy. It was formed when parts of the former Papal States, Emilia in the east and Romagna in the west .joined together after Italian unification.
Many of the major cities in Emilia-Romagna lie along the route of the ancient Roman road, the Via Aemilia. It formed part of the pilgrimage routes to Rome and the Holy Land in medieval times and this has left a rich legacy of magnificent Romanesque cathedrals and churches along its length at cities such as Piacenza, Parma and Modena.
Emilia-Romagna is not one of the tourist hotspots of Italy but, like a lot of places, if you look carefully you can find surprisingly interesting architectural and historical gems. From the magnificent Byzantine mosaics of Ravenna, the Romanesque masterpieces of Modena cathedral and Parma's Baptistry to the magnificent equestrian statues in Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna is a fascinating destination.
