À propos du livre
The texture of his favorite shirt. The smell of his bedroom. The feeling of excitement when I saw his car in the driveway because I knew he was home from work. The overwhelming taste of the sandwiches he would make when he put too much mayonnaise in the tuna. The absence of the sound of his voice that would call my name, tell me he loved me, and incorrectly guess the price of a car on The Price is Right. The empty feeling that overcomes me when I walk back into his house and know he is no longer there.
These photographs, of the things he left behind, represent the memories I have of my grandfather. Memories can be triggered by any of the senses; what we see, hear, taste, smell, or touch in the present can spark something familiar. By incorporating scanned fabrics, the viewer visually activates the sense of touch even if they cannot feel the fabric. They get to know my grandfather by seeing the clothes he wore and his favorite activities. The love, care, and emotion in these images reflect how much I love and miss my grandfather.
