À propos du livre
Photojournalist and writer, Vanessa Champion, went on expedition with International NGO PENHA (Pastoralist and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa) across Uganda documenting the Pastoralist* way of life. A percentage of the profits will be given to the NGO to support their valuable work in Uganda and the Horn of Africa. There is a seismic change being imposed onto Pastoralist culture as these nomads are encouraged to settle in one place. While this is of good intention, it is a challenging move for these brave families. The images document not only Pastoralist bucolic living, at once idyllic and tough but also the advance of modernity and the necessity for these gentle people to keep up with change. “I witnessed the eerie silence of herding hundreds of livestock as the sun set, sheltered from a furious storm huddled on monochrome cow hides with Bahima women while cattle herders sang folk songs, watched school children drumming and shared a great deal of laughter with some wonderful people, memories which will be with me for as long as I live”
