À propos du livre
Jake is an ordinary, 8 year old boy, full of mischief and mirth, but his life is about to change when he visits his aunty's house in Brighthelmstone. Her cat Bunbun starts talking to Jake when he can't sleep and goes downstairs for a glass of milk. It turns out that not only does Bunbun speak in rhyme but that he is also a coastguard. Under a full moon, Bunbun grows bigger and takes Jake for a ride on his back to Rottingdean to visit his friend Badger, the coastguard of Badger's Watch, with whom Bunbun will swap shifts. When they arrive at the coastguard's cottage, Badger is not there, but there are signs of a fight. They go down to the sea as Bunbun suspects that smugglers have kidnapped Badger. There they witness smuggling cats using lanterns to wreck a sailing ship. They see a French sailor drowning and Bunbun and Jake go out in a small boat to rescue him. The adventure that follows requires a lot of bravery, teamwork, self belief, determination, angels, mermaids and magic. Jake will have to deal with managing his own fear and learn how to trust his own abilities and that of those around him. The book has some beautiful illustrations and is in large, easy to read typeface; the perfect present for children who are just becoming independent readers or who are struggling readers. The book has a very exciting sequel (Jake and The Legend of The Golden Keys) to follow the intrepid start.

I'm a self taught writer and illustrator. My day job is teaching- currently in secondary education as a supply. These books about Jake are inspired by my nephew and were for him. They were also inspired by my love of the undercliff path, the downs, Rottingdean and its smuggling history and last but not least, my black and white cat, Bunbun.
