À propos du livre
I am currently exploring the idea that land can be saturated with human existence, specifically how my identity as a Southerner and my particular heritage is rooted in a physical space. This space is the land I and several generations of my family have lived on. I am interested in documenting the physical connection between us in relation to the land as the literal fruits of that land, focusing on the body and flesh. The idea of existence physically affecting land, or land containing an energy of that existence, has brought me to the study of spiritualism and how that relates to the land and its history. In order to transform this concept into a physical presence, I have made photographs that attempt to perceive instances of light reflected in mundane spaces as supernatural. In creating something monumental from a fleeting moment, I hope to emphasize the idea of spiritualism existing within the everyday. This, in combination with images of land and ancestry, highlight the simultaneous influence and fragility of human existence as a direct result of many tiny decisions and events.
