À propos du livre
The first part of this book about Chinese Characters is aimed at encouraging young friends, domestic or abroad, to study Chinese characters. It indicates that organizing Chinese characters is not as difficult and boring as people think. It is a systematic and justified creation in large. Each section begins with an imaginary ‘story’ narrative restricted in words with identical sound-component, showing the possible connection between the sound and the meaning.
The second part is the core of this book, namely, “How to unify traditional and simplified Chinese characters”, which is one of major subject matters of my study in Hanzi system. Within the commonly-used 7,000 words, I expect the traditional and simplified Hanzi could be combined into a unique, standardized system; therefore another unification is expected to happen again after Chin Dynasty.
The process can be divided into three stages. First, recognizing differences between traditional and simplified characters, I finished “Comparison of Hanzi Fonts between Taiwan and Mainland China” as a chapter in this book. Secondly, to solve the “asymmetric” problem (i.e. one simplified character is mapped to two or more traditional characters with different meanings). I have analyzed the issue and proposed some solutions—one of them is to modify the software program for translation between them. It would be more practical at present than changing Official Specification. Finally, how the Unification of the Chinese Character System could be done, under this topic, I have presented a few papers at <Peking University Chinese Forum> to voice my point of view.
