À propos du livre
This book is a compilation of more than 40 years of photography in Kenya and Northern Tanzania. It is a selection out of many thousand shots taken on safaris and game drives and game walks all over these two countries. Life for the wildlife has changed mainly because of the population pressure which necessitates more and more agricultural land and curtails the space available for wild animals. That battle for space will determine the chances for survival for many species. It is very unlikely that in 50 years our grandchildren will be able to have the same “wildlife experiences” as we have today!
No particular comment has been added to the pictures. It should not disturb those who look at each photograph in the book. The photos should speak for themselves!
Four other volumes on EAST AFRICA complement this book on THE BIG FIVE: MAASAI AT HOME, NORTHERN TANZANIA, KENYAN LANDSCAPES and EAST AFRICAN WILDLIFE VOL. 2: ALL THE OTHERS.
The following animals are considered to be the BIG FIVE: buffalo, elephant, lion, rhino and leopard. The term was coined by the big-game hunters in the 19th century and refers to the five most difficult animals to hunt in Africa valued as the highest trophy.
