À propos du livre
Looking Through contains two photography projects I worked on in the last two years of my undergraduate. The first project is "The Brown's Barn". I have always been interested in the nostalgia of old, broken buildings. The barn acts as a storage space, filled with objects that the owners can't part with. There is a sense of memory and loss in the barn. It's slowly falling down and becoming unusable. Beams, floorboards, and pieces of walls are broken and missing. I wanted to show that there is still beauty in the broken and forgotten. I also wanted to capture the attachment to the objects. Some of these objects hold meaning or value to the owner. The second project is "Through the Telescope". For this group of work, I chose to use cyanotypes to create a sense of ambiguity. The images resemble looking up at space or looking down at the Earth. The circle format suggests peering through a telescope and/or microscope. The grid allows me to represent something bigger in which pathways can be found and creates relationships among one another.
