À propos du livre
"If You Don't Let Us Dream We Won't Let You Sleep"
(title of play by Anders Lustgarten)
This book consists of maps tracing memories of thoughts, things observed and experiences I've had, tracking a year of walks, train, bus and car journeys through 4 areas that span the old West Riding of Yorkshire. It has culminated from years of wandering and musing around an area loosely centered around Leeds, Wakefield, Barnsley and Sheffield. I’m trying to show what inhabiting these places/walking through these human landscapes feels like. All too often I find reality is massively cropped to take the more picturesque. More importantly, however, I’m also trying to show that the critical issues society faces today can be observed on a 'local' level as much as in any international city.
I have chosen this area because I know this landscape better than I know any other physical landscape.

À propos du créateur
John Ledger
Barnsley, South Yorkshire, UK
John Ledger is a visual Artist, eternal meanderer and obsessive self-reflector by nature, who can’t help but try to interpret everything from within the tide of society. His works predominantly take the form of large-scale ballpoint pen landscape drawings and map-making as social/psychological note-making. They are slow-forming, but defiant responses; it takes time to truly figure out what he wants to say about our social reality, seeing his works as an attempt at mapping this social/psychological landscape.
