ln 1992 Sancisi gained a first in Photography from Nottingham Trent University and began her study of typological portraits with her first group, 'Stonemasons'. She gained a distinction in her MA from University of Westminster in 1996 and showed alongside Martin Parr and Nick Waplington at the Château-Musée de Tourrettes sur Loup in the Photography Biennial in Nice, France. In 1997 she had solo exhibitions at Viewpoint Gallery, Salford and the Royal Photographic Society, Bath. She had a series of site-specific commissions in public places at Dorset County Hospital, Heathrow Airport and King's College Hospital and has been published in 'Residual Resemblances: photographs by Gabriella Sancisi', (monograph), 1997, ISBN 0-901952-966 and ‘Airport’, The Photographers’ Gallery, 1997, ISBN 0 907879 50 0. She teaches photography to students from foundation to MA level and from 2008-11 was artist in residence at Middlesex University. Her books range from the personal to the typological.
